27% of the students at a college are from out-of-state. If 2,133 students are from out-of-state, how many students attend the college?

OpenStudy (perl):

Let x = # of all college students We are given that : 27% of x is 2133 'of' means 'multiply' 'is' means 'equal' % means divide by 100 27/100 * x = 2133

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure if this is right but, you first find out how many times does 27 go into 100 and then multiply it by 2133

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats just how i saw it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (perl):

that works too : )

OpenStudy (perl):

and what was your reasoning

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We have tried 2133 already and it was wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if 27% of students that attend college are 2133, then we just find how many times does 27% goes into 100. which 3.703... so 27% goes into 100 3.703... times so we just multiply that by 2133

@M0j0jojo, We understand what your saying. You were right, thanks!
