TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Back to your question :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So lets say the youngest brother is x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so your writing a let statement

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

No I am just stating what x is and am trying to make the equations with what we are given using x as a variable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So three times the age of the younges tbrother means 3x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i understand that

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And then it says it exceeds the age of the oldest brother by 48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would you add 3x +48?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Exactly

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

and the oldest brother has to be 6 years older than him because it says consecutive which means 1, 2, 3 and then it says even so it has to be 2, 4, 6

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So we would get the equation \(\Huge\color{red}{3x}\color{green}{+48}=\color{blue}{x+6}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtact 1 x from 3 x

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

YEs

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Yes*

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it thankyou

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And that is your answer :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Tell me what you got as the answr so I can check :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

answer*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=21

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANKYOU

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

\(\Huge\cal\color{red}{No}~\color{green}{problem}~\color{blue}{!!!}\) Do you know how to give medals and fan people @alexisdianna12

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

I covered all that in this tutorial for new OpenStudiers :) http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/543de42fe4b0b3c6e146b5e8
