Solving for a variable means they want it on its own, so you want to get t by itself. To do this, you have to remember what you do to one side you must do it also to the other. So for example if we have, lets say: -5x+y=3+x And you want to solve for y. We want to get rid of the -5x on the left side and move it to the opposite side, so what we do is add on the left and remember if you add on left you must also add on the right. Adding on the left cancels out the -5x so you're left with just the y. Therefore you get y = 3x+6x
