In the town of Brownville, the water company charges a flat rate of $5.56 for usage of less than or equal to 300 cubic feet and $1.74 for every 100 cubic feet used in excess of 300 cubic feet. If a resident consumes 800 cubic feet in one month, what will be the amount of the bill? $15.24 $14.26 $12.76 $15.03 $12.33

used 800 cf 300 cf for 5.56 1.74 per every cf beyond that so to find out what is beyond 300 just subtract 800 -300 ---- 500 is what you went beyond so multiply 500 by $1.74 then add $5.56 for the 300 flat rate

I have no idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you multipy 1.74 you get 870 thats too big of a number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait i read wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 14.26??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

used 800 cf 300 cf for 5.56 1.74 per every 100 cf beyond that so to find out what is beyond 300 just subtract 800 -300 ---- 500 is what you went beyond. BUT its per every 100 so 500/100=5 so multiply 5 by $1.74 <-------------- fixed then add $5.56 for the 300 flat rate
