Is 30.98 a irrational number? and Why?
irrational number would be a square root. But this one apparently is just a decimal
Well irrational numbers can be decimals too. but do you want to see the full question.
lets do that....
Using the numbers 5, 8, and 24, create a problem using no more than four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square, square root, cube, cube root) where the solution will be an irrational number. Explain why the result of your operations is an irrational number.
well if 30.98 is an approximation of some square root, then it would an irrational. Where is this number 30.98 coming from?
@NobleWho I love your profile picture.. :)
My school isn't exactly helpful. in helping you understand. Also thanks @I_Need_Help_With_Home
where is 30.98 coming from, can you tell me?
Well @david2431 i multipled 5*8*24
and got a decimal ?
no i got 960 then i calculated the square root of 960 which was 30.98
ohh, well for all we know the square root of 960 is an irrational number
oh really. i didn't know
A square root of any number that is not a perfect square or zero (zero is not considered to be a perfect square although 0 *0 =0)... then the number is irrational.
yes, square root of like 2,3,6,8, is an irrational number whereas, sqrt(4) or sqrt(9) is a RATIONAL number because it is a perfect square and same as 2, and 3 (respectively) .
Oh oh i get it now! Thanks so much you were very helpful!
