5. Why did the people feel the need for a weak central government?

If you are talking about the Articles of Confederation, the colonists, now Americans had just finished a war with Britain who had a powerful central government, a monarchy. The writers felt that provisions were necessary to inhibit the central government from having too much power and becoming a monarchy, just like Britain. So they made the central government extremely weak, heavily limiting what it was able to do, and instead gave the most power to the individual states. Later they would see that a weak central government was doomed to fail.
