How do I write a counter-argument?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You respond to the arguments the other side made, and explain why they are incorrect, and why your side is right. (simplified version)

OpenStudy (empress*):

Consider an argument that would be put forth against your position. Simply state one claim that goes against the position you've taken, and find a few details to support that claim. Then, find a strong point to disprove / explain / support your position, and why that particular claim isn't exactly a major disadvantage for your position. INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH (thesis + a few supporting details) PARAGRAPH ONE (supporting detail #1 + examples/reasons) PARAGRAPH TWO (supporting detail #2 + examples/reasons) **** PARAGRAPH THREE (counterargument + examples/reasons) CONCLUSION (sums up all major points) (****Sometimes you'll have more supporting details, not just 2, so just be sure to write them out and explain them in separate paragraphs, and make sure that your counterargument paragraph is written just before the conclusion paragraph)
