It odes propel a plot, good :) Imagine reading a story where the characters are named but not described, assigned no personality whatsoever. Doesn't that kind of ruin the plot? That's how you know. Does characterization reveal diction? It could, I guess, but it really helps propel and deepen the plot. Hope this helps :)
