How would i solve this using substitution: 2x=6y 4y+x=20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve for one of the variables in the first equation (since that looks easiest) and then plug that into the place where the variable is in the other. Like so.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would x equal 1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the first? It would equal 3y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So plug in 3y for x in the second one and solve for 'y'.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 7y=20?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You got it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So y = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=2.86

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or y=7/20
