\[2x+y=9\]\[3x+4y=26\] Let's solve the first one for y to get it into slope-intercept form:\[2x+y=9\]\[y=9-2x\]Now we'll solve for the second one:\[3x+4y=26\]\[4y=26-3x\]\[y=\frac{ 13 }{ 2 }-\frac{ 4 }{ 3 }x\] These kinds of formulas are used to graph linear equations. It is seen commonly in charting change over time (such as the acceleration of a car over a track) or distance over time (such as walking from point A to point B). However both of these lines are decreasing which means as time goes on, something is is slowing down or is getting closer. And at one point in time actually intersect (You can see this if you graph the lines together). Hopefully that helps!

what about part 1?

I'm sure you can come up with something detailing what could have created the graph(s). If you graph them out yourself you will be able to see the relationship better. I might suggest writing about two cars travelling at two different speeds to reach their destination or perhaps the change in temperature as winter rolls around in California compared to Alaska. There are a lot of possibilities.
