How To Do LaTeX Basics and Boxes: Tutorial

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Ok, First off, you need to know that \(\Huge\bf\color{#00b9bc}{ALL}\) LaTeX text commands start with \(\ After that, you need to put what size text you want. http://www.forkosh.com/latex/ltx-178.html If you click on the link, there are the LaTeX sizes. You also need to know that after you pick which size you need to leave no spaces and put a \. Your text command should now look like this |dw:1416417263065:dw| then you choose the font type http://www.tug.dk/FontCatalogue/allfonts.html Click on that link to see all available fonts. After that, you put another \ and the word color and then a bracket, { and a # sign to put the hex color code in. Here are some Hex codes http://www.color-hex.com/ Your command should look something like this |dw:1416417461813:dw| to stop the color command, you put an ending bracket, }. After you've done that, you put another bracket { to enter your text in. You use ~ for spaces. Your command should look something like this now. |dw:1416417574108:dw| You then close the command with an ending bracket }. The last thing you need to remember is that when you end LaTeX, you ALWAYS end it in a \ and a ) but there are no spaces in between them. And that's just the basics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank's Babe

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

You're welcome :)

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Very good :) I see all the LaTeX fonts, but I believe the only fonts on HERE that work are \(\rm \large \backslash\color{magenta}{sf}\) \(\rm \large \backslash\color{magenta}{bf}\) \(\rm \large \backslash\color{magenta}{cal}\) \(\rm \large \backslash\color{magenta}{scr}\) \(\rm \large\backslash\color{magenta}{rm}\) \(\rm \large\backslash\color{magenta}{tt}\) \(\rm \large \backslash\color{magenta}{it}\) Where it says 'Put Your Text Here' that is where you put what you want to type :) \(\rm \large \backslash \color{magenta}{boldsymbol}\color{lime}{\{}\color{red}{Put~Your~Text~Here!}\color{lime}{\}}\) \(\rm \large \backslash \color{magenta}{mathbb}\color{lime}{\{}\color{red}{Put~Your~Text~Here!}\color{lime}{\}}\) ---This is showing what each font LOOKS LIKE :)--- \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{sf}\) - \(\sf \large HELLO~hello~12345\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{bf}\) - \(\bf \large HELLO~hello~12345\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{cal}\) - \(\cal \large HELLO~hello~12345\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{scr}\) - \(\scr \large HELLO~hello~12345\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{rm}\) - \(\rm \large HELLO~hello~12345\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{tt}\) - \(\tt \large HELLO~hello~12345\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{it}\) - \(\it \large HELLO~hello~12345\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{boldsymbol}\) - \(\boldsymbol{ \large HELLO~hello~12345}\) \(\rm \large \color{magenta}{mathbb}\) - \(\mathbb{ \large HELLO~hello~12345}\)

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Thank's for adding to it @sammixboo I tried using the fonts I posted in the tutorial to do some \(\normalsize\color{black}{LaTeX}\) but they weren't working. Thanks again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\Huge\color{#c1b9d9}{LaTeX}\)

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I don't even use fonts.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

@shinebrightlikeadimon

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

So you understand how to do the basics now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

now you want me to teach you how to do \(\bbox[5pt,#33cccc,border:5pt solid #f9bec7]{Boxes?}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

ok, just a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\huge\jd\blue\{#0066cc}{Hope~I'm~doing~this~right}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i failed LOL

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

The format is almost the same...you always start out your LaTeX command with \(\. Now instead of starting a text command, you put bbox and a \. Like this. |dw:1417706436467:dw| after you've done that, you need a [. and you put these things inside that bracket. |dw:1417706475281:dw| see that I closed that command with a bracket? You can only change anything in the # signs and the hexcode. For example. |dw:1417706584549:dw| now that you've closed the bbox command with a bracket, you need to start your text command. You do that like this. |dw:1417706750329:dw| Now you've learned how to do a simple box!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is too hard

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

you add on the text command like this |dw:1417706869736:dw|

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

well the problem you had with your LaTeX is you forgot to start out by doing \(\

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Now you choose a size of text. Example> Huge

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

now you need to put a \ and the word color

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

then you put a { and a color code. Then you close that command with another }

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

to put the text in, you put another {. Then the text you want inside it.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

after you're done doing that, you ALWAYS close the command by doing }\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay let me try one more time

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

okie doke

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Example of LaTeX `\(\Huge\cal\color{#0000ff}{Hello}\)`

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

That's a simple text command...it looks like this > \(\Huge\cal\color{#0000ff}{Hello}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\huge\color{#0066cc}{How~about~now?}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay i did it!

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

YOU GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Now that you know the basics, later on, you'll end up learning how to do more complex LaTeX with more complex boxes and hyperlinks.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

There's so much more to LaTeX but this is all I pretty much know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its fine at least i know the basic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnx

k_lynn for openstudy links you only use 2 / XD

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

btw thanks for the linking me! :D

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

np, your tutorials are always really good. Plus, it's because of your tutorials about LaTeX that I actually know how to do it.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

really? that actually means a lot thanks! :D

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

oopsies...I meant np

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

finally almost done with the full tutorial, it should be done in a half hour xD

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

maybe a bit more then a half hour... taking little longer then i thought

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

I'll make sure to check it out when you're done...and quite possibly tag some people who want to learn LaTeX.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

its going to be my most informative tutorial yet XD... when i add more stuff to it, it will be even more informative then thomasters... heck it might already xD atm its about 5 times clearer xD

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

AND DONE time to post :D

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

lol I'm checking it out right now

OpenStudy (confluxepic):
