A verb is in the passive voice when the subject of the sentence is acted on by the verb.
OpenStudy (britanyashton):
those happen when the thing receiving the action is stressed. eg. Once a week, Tom cleans the house. passive voice=Once a week, the house is cleaned by Tom.

For example: The ball was thrown by the pitcher. Was thrown is the passive voice
