OpenStudy (alesia/bailey):

can someone check this real quick.. scientific notation Q: (6.1 x 10 to the fifth power) (2 x 10 to the fifth power) A: 1.22 x 10 to the ninth power.

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Not quite. I got 1.22 x 10^11

OpenStudy (alesia/bailey):

How?? is it when you have to put the decimal of 12.2 to 1.22?? Because that's where I kind of get confused knowing if the exponent goes up or down 1.

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

\(\large (6.1\times10^5)(2\times10^5)\rightarrow(6.1\times2)(10^5\times10^5)\rightarrow(12.2)(10^{10})\) \(\large\rightarrow (1.22\times10^1)(10^{10})\rightarrow 1.22\times10^{11}\)
