He helped the grossly overpopulating Muslims expanding there to take over from Serbian Orthodox and Croat Roman Catholics. He was always a naive PC kind of president and bought the naive crap from others like him. 

The same thing happened when grossly overpopulating Albanian Muslims were squeezing Serbians out of Kosovo. He helped them do that too.
