Solve the system of equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x-4y=5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=3y-2\]

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Substitute the value of x into the first equation. 3y - 2 - 4y = 5 y = -7 Now that you know the value of y, substitute it into the second equation to solve for x. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you substitute?

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Well the second equation tells us the x is equal to 3y-2 so you just take 3y-2 and put in the place of x in the first equation. :) Get it?
