'A rectangular deck is 12 ft by 14 ft. When the length and width are increased by the same amount, the area becomes 288 sq. ft. By how much were the dimensions increased?'

first step multiply 12 by 14... then increase both by 1 and multiply them... if its not 288 then try again and move it up by another 1 and keep doing this process until you get 288 :) your answer will be what the demensions are that when you multiply together are equivlant to 288
