It's actually false. Do as follows: Use the identity: sin(A - B) = sin(A)cos(B) - cos(A)sin(B) In your question A = x and B = π/2 So substitute into the identity: sin(x - π/2) = sin(x)cos(π/2) - cos(x) sin(π/2) sin(x - π/2) = sin(x)(0) - cos(x)(1) sin(x - π/2) = -cos(x) Remember that sin(π/2) = 1 and that cos(π/2) = 0.
