y/8 + 5 = -3

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Noted.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

What are we supposed to do??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve Y

OpenStudy (compassionate):

\[\frac{ y }{ 8 } + 5 = -3\] Alright, so first start by subtracting 3 from both sides \[\frac{ y }{ 8 } = -8\] Now, since 8 is being divided by y, that means to undo the operation we must ___ both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did equation on line and it gave answer of y = -64 I need to know the steps to get this answer if it is correct

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Well, 8 * -8 is -64

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Good job Comp! OS lags I don't get a notification that he replied lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean subtract 5 from both sides ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (compassionate):

You need to subtract 5 from both sides then multiply by 8, yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay because you said 3 thank you for your help !!!!!!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Since you are new, I would adivse you to read this tutorial for new OS users xD http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/543de42fe4b0b3c6e146b5e8 It contains everything you need to know about OS :)
