What would be the coordinates of the image of (10,-4) rotated clockwise about the origin through a 90-degree angle? Answer (-4,-10) (6,1) (-2,1) (1,2)

Miracrown (miracrown):

There are some different ways to approach it. You may have seen some trigonometric formulas for finding the coordinates after you perform a rotation, or we could try looking at it graphically.

Directrix (directrix):

You might notice that:after the rotation, x and y change their values and their quadrant. As this point is in the fourth quadrant, rotating 90 degrees about origin gives the third quadrant. http://openstudy.com/updates/518a0c99e4b0d254cf0e7532 @Shadowys

Directrix (directrix):

@Shadowys So, the point will be (-4,?), where both x and y are negative because they are in the third quadrant.

Miracrown (miracrown):

If you rotate the point 90 degrees clockwise, it will end up on that line because that angle is 90 degrees, so you can see what is happening graphically

Miracrown (miracrown):

Now for 90 degree rotations, getting the coordinates, is actually easy to calculate. It flips the numbers around and takes the negative of the y so (10, -4) --> (-4, -10) and hopefully that is a choice.

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yep. =]

OpenStudy (surryyy):

Thank u!
