I believe atoms is your best choice as @anonymous_user said above. Although, some different types of atoms are unstable and can spontaneously break up into smaller (lighter) atoms. This is called radioactivity. All the elements heavier than lead are naturally somewhat radioactive (and some atoms are quite radioactive).
