Medal if you like:) Check out my story... :) The Best Camp
The Best Camp _________________________________________ We were driving down the road, just returning from our great trip to the mountains. It was a night of fierce darkness, and rain that blocked your sight. Slower that slowly, Papa drove the car so carefully, trying to find what way would we have out. Watching Mama reading the map, and discussing with Papa how we would get home in this storm, my four-year-old mind wondered how exciting the trip would actually be. I stared into the dark. "The dark is the best time", I thought, "because then you can see colors and patterns without them really being there". Staring for what seems a couple minutes, I was awoken by the voice of Mama. "It's been hours now, are we really going to get home?" Mama said. "Just a little while more, let's try" replied Papa. Just as he said that, the car stopped. "What happened?" asked Mama. "The tire is flat" Papa replied. As they discussed what to do, I interrupted, "Are we sleeping at home tonight?" Mama and Papa both looked at each other for a few moments. Finally, they both smiled. "We're staying here tonight", said Mama. I thought about that to myself for a couple minutes. I looked up. The adventure seemed to have actually begun. "Are we camping? What about the tent?" I asked. Papa replied, "we'll just camp in tonight". I was excited. The idea of waiting had left my mind. Making my way out of my seat, I impatiently unfastened Mama and Papa's seat belts. Seeing that, Mama and Papa left their conversation behind. They climbed into the back with me. Papa put the seats in the stow-away. I watched as the seats went down in the floor. Spreading out the blanket, we all sat down. “So, what's dark time a good time for?” asked Papa. “Imagination!” said Mama. “To imagine, we have to see our own image. In the dark, there is nothing to distract our minds, and we can make our own visualization of everything” Mama explained to me. Papa started the scene, “OK, let's say we are in the high mountains, like we were today, only this time, it's very cold, and there's snow everywhere. The sky is clear blue, except, there is one big cloud just touching the peak of the mountain. There is a river nearby, flowing smoothly”. “Why isn't the river frozen?” I interrupted. “The water is moving”, explained Mama, “it's like it's alive. The cold can only freeze things that are not moving”. That thought caught my mind. I become silent, in and out. Taking in the words of my Mother, a bulb suddenly lit in my mind. “Does that mean as long as I keep going, nothing can stop me?” “Of course”, smiled Mama. I turned to Papa. “Absolutely” grinned Papa. Feeling fulfilled with my conclusion, I went back to the cold mountain. Papa started setting the scene again. “So, you see the river flowing. You feel the cold snow in your feet. It's cold, but the sun is making it feel very comfortable.” Papa stopped. “Do you smell anything now?” “I smell fresh rain. It smells like it just rained a while ago” I replied. I waited for Mama's answer. “I smell a fire. There's a fire somewhere in my mind” Mama said. “Now look up at the cloud touching the peak. The sky is still clear, with just that one, big cloud above the mountain. Keep looking at that for a while.” instructed Papa. I stared at the clear scene. “You notice something? There's a rainbow. It's coming from the big cloud” Papa said finally. “A really big, clear rainbow. You can see the whole arch.” After a while of seeing that, Papa told us to come back to the present. “OK, now who can tell me why that rainbow was there?” Papa asked. I turned to Mama. Mama smiled, and said, “I'll tell you, that mountain wasn't any normal mountain. It was a volcano. The cloud was staying above the volcano, so the heat from the volcano was going up to the cloud, and it started raining”. I captivatedly listened attentively. “Since the sun was out while it was raining, the big rainbow was shown”. I loved the idea. I held it in my mind as long as possible. I felt a fulfillment from taking in Mama's explanation. Mama and Papa smiled to each other as they watched me. “See where imagination can take you? Hot lava, rainbows, and cold snow all in one scene” Papa laughed. I still was captivated with the explanation of the rainbow. I kept repeating it, interpreting it, contemplating it. It felt so warm and beautiful to me, especially when it came from Mama's voice. Finally, we all lay down on the blanket. Tucked in carefully, I was snug in between Mama and Papa. With Mama stroking my head, Papa holding my hand, and the rainbow in my dreams, I encrypted the whole adventure in my heart, through my sleep.

@Chocolate1031
Aww, that's a cute story! ^_^ (One thing I would suggest is to make the narrator older, most 4-yr-olds don't have vocabularies or memories that are that good.)
