Let's look at the first inequality. An absolute value inequality cannot be less than -1 because absolute value is always positive. For the second one, the same rule applies. We know by process of elimination the answer would be C., but let's explore further to see why it would be. Ok, so absolute value has to be positive, right? So if |x| > -1, then it can be true.
