Could someone please explain to me what they mean by this ?? without just giving me a bunch of confusing equations ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (mertsj):

They mean for you to find the value of y when x is -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes , but how do i do that ?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

right. So the function value at x = -2 is 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug in the value of x

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Look at the graph.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The line is the function. If you choose an x value of -2, you can see that the y value is 3. The y value is called the function value since the line is a function.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Sometimes we write the equation of a line like this: y = 2x-7 but sometimes we use function notation and write it like this: f(x)=2x-7
