Muhammad left Mecca to live in mending because

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Muhammad fled to Medina (his hijrah) to escape persecution of government and religious officials in Mecca. When Muhammad first began to spread Islam, Mecca already had a largely polytheistic religious following that generated a large portion of the local economy's revenue. In essence, it was feared that Islam would hurt the economy because it would begin to weaken the polytheistic religion that was already in place.
