Neither of the girls gave _______ opinion about where to eat dinner. Throw out prepositional phrases. Neither gave _______ opinion. Now, we see the gender is missing. This makes "her" dubious. "there" is also simply the incorrect word for this. I thoroughly disagree with the determination that "her" is necessarily correct. "Neither" is singular. This removes "their", although the casual use of plural is sneaking into American English. Thus, I have to conclude that the most proper answer is "an".
