i just solved this for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitute zero for the variable you want to eliminate. then divide across the equal sign to get the variable on its own

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. 6x+3y=12 2. 6x-5y=60 take away equation 2 from 1 you are left with: 8y= -48 divide both sides by 8 y= -6 now to work out x you should subsitute the value of y into one of the original equations 1. 6x+3y =12 1. 6x + (3*-6) = 12 1. 6x + -18 =12 1. 6x-18 =12 add 18 to both sides 1. 6x = 30 divide both sides by 6 x= 5 therefore x= 5 and y = -6
