A 800-N billboard worker stands on a 4.0-m scaffold weighing 500 N and supported by vertical ropes at each end. How far should the worker stand from one of the supporting ropes to produce a tension of 550 N in that rope?

first you draw your FBD. pretty easy. just a rectangle to represent a scaffolding with two lines from either end going straight up to represent the rope holding it up. no just pick a side to designate as your point of rotation. once you have that now just get the sum of all the torques involved in this to find your distance. |dw:1416696328216:dw|
