Is there a single person or event you think exemplifies the changing US society of the 1960s and 1970s?
There were several things happening at the time that changed society... 1962: Ole Miss is integrated, and the Cuban Missile Crisis went underway 1963: The Civil Rights March in DC, and JFK was assassinated 1965: Great Society, Malcolm X assassinated 1969: First man on the moon 1970: Kent State Massacre Those are a few things I could find... There is probably a lot more, but this is from the College Board AP History Timeline for 1960-1970. There was a little information I didn't include, because when I was in AP History, we barely focused on it.
But there were people like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Richard Nixon, JFK, Buzz Aldrin and couple more.
