Kara is filing single on her 2014 income tax return and her standard deduction is $6,200. She paid $3,250 in property taxes, $2,475 in mortgage interested and contributed $325 to charity. Should Kara take the standard deduction or itemize deductions, and why?

Kara will want to take the greater of the standard deduction or the sum of the three itemized deductions. So add up the three itemized deductions. Is this number bigger than $6,200? Note, she wants the biggest number.
