They are similar because they both are electromagnetic waves and are different because they lie in different wavelength range of spectrum.

I may add that Ultraviolet translates to beyond violet, that is ultraviolet light has frequencies beyond violet in the visual light spectrum. Infrared translates to below red, i.e. below red light in the visual light spectrum.
