factor x^2-4x+3

OpenStudy (academicgurusinc):

Step 1: find two numbers such that when you multiply them together, the product is 3 and when you add them together the sum is -4 -1 and -3 work (-1) * (-3) = 3 (-1) + (-3) = -4 Therefore: x^2-4x+3= (x-1)(x-3) Step 2: Determine when this equation is equal to zero This is true when x-1=0 and/or x-3=0 Therefore x= 1, 3 We hope this helps.
