What is the purpose of comparisons in writing?

Comparisons are to make your writing more richer and meaningful and go get a point across.....whatever that point may be.

We use compare and/or contrast writing to support an opinion or point of view. When you compare something in an essay for example, you put emphasis on the similarities. A contrast essay focuses on the differences. Both of these methods of writing can also be helpful when it comes to making a choice. E.g deciding which phone to buy, such android vs iphone.
