FAN + MEDAL + TESTIMONY!!!! Marty's class collected $23.40 in a school-wide penny collection contest. If Tommy's class added $2.50 to the amount they collected, x, and then multiplied the sum by 2, they would have the same amount of money as Marty's class. 2(x + $2.50)= $23.40 How much money did Tommy's class collect? A $2.50 B $14.20 C $11.70 D $9.20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the distributive property! 2x + 2($2.50)

OpenStudy (taylev105):

she right @Kit_Kat_Nat_<3 what do you think the answer is @Korey_Minter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you would have 2x+ $5.00= $23.40 :) So get the variable on one side to solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So: 2x+$5= $23.40 Subtact 5 from each side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Umm, Well im thinking I do 25.40 x 5.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, you need to subtract $5.00 from the $23.40 so that you can get x by itself. Once you subtacted $5 from $23.40, then divide it by 2 :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would have $18.40 divided by 2 :) What is that? :) Solve that and you have your answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! :D

So what is your asnwer? :-)
