Can some one please clarify homologous for me? I understand that it means "the same" but is it just talking about paternal vs maternal? "The same" genes?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

umm..lets say in this way..consider insulin gene...it is d same in every indivdual...plus it is located on the same chromosome. every human has 23 pairs of chromosomes. from each pair one is from mom and other from dad. so these pairs have similar sequences...remeber similar not exact same. so these chromosomes are called homologous chromosomes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homologous_chromosome
