For sin(θ) = -0.4321, 0 ≤ θ ≤ 360°. a. How many solutions are possible? b. In which quadrants would you find the solutions? c. Determine the reference angle for this equation to the nearest degree. d. Determine all the solutions to the equation to the nearest degree.
Can someone please help me out with this quesiton please?
the sine is negative in the 3rd and 4th quadrants.
find the angle whose sine is 0.4321 using your calculator. It will give you an angle in first quadrant. From this you can find the values of the 2 angles in 3rd and 4th quadrants.
I guess the reference angle is the one in first qadrant ( I've never heard that term before)
any questions?
I'm still going through it, can you wait a bit please? :) @cwrw238
@cwrw238 I don't quiet get the part which you said find the angle whose sine is 0.4321. I dont really know how to do this, can you please do this for me in steps so I can get a better understanding?
ok
OK your calculator will have a button marked sin-1 or arcsin You'll probably have to press the shift button first on mine you enter 0.4321 then Shift then sin on some calculators you press shift sin then 0.4321
you should get 25.6 degrees
alright, this is pertaining to question d) right?
question c
Yep I got 25.6! :) What about the equation in part d? It's really intriguing me
so if written down, does it look like \[\sin^{-1} (0.4321)\]?
sin theta = -0.4321 you can solve this via a diagram - lets draw the quadrantsL- |dw:1416853991984:dw|
