What are two sinusoidal equations that model real world things? How would I go about finding/creating the equations?

I for the most part understand the base equation being y = asin(kt - c) + h. A = amplitude, k = the period, c = the phase shift, and h = the vertical shift right? So would I need to find my example, say light waves, and plug in values? Mainly I'm just unsure of where to find said values.
