A cell is only permeable to K+. You know that the intercellular concentration of K+ to be 7mM and the extracellular concentration to be 130mM. You now decide that you want to investigate the properties of a single K+ channel within this cell. You know that the conductance of this particular K+ channel is =25pS. If you clamp the membrane potential at -60mV, then how much current is flowing through the single K+ channel?, If there are 6.3 X 10^8K+ channels, then what is the total current flowing through the cell?
