Find x, y and z.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@uri

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Kainui

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@timanti any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, i'm not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@timanti do u know anyone who knows geometry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know, try tagging some moderators maybe they can help you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mariam.A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Addicto_ do you understand the sin rule we did previously?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok good then, can u use it to find x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my problem is that i dont know which number to use at which time, can u just give it to me and i will solve..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry let's do z first given u d number isn't d best way try this instead u have side 12 and its opposite angle sin60 and also z with its opp angle sin90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what do u think it should look like folllowing the method u used previously

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12/sin60 = z/sin90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

excellent! so now solve for z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

z = 13.85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now u have z u can solve y using the pythagoras theorem since u have two known sides..remeber hyp2=opp2+adj2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in this case u are looking for the adj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y^2 = 12 + 90 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12^2 + 90^2 sorry

OpenStudy (mrnood):

x/12= cos 45 y/12 = tan 30 12/z= cos 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nah try again ur hyp is the value u just solved for z=13.85 ur opp is 12 so \[adj ^{2}=hyp ^{2}-opp ^{2}\] \[adj ^{2}=13.85^{2}-12^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now solve

OpenStudy (mrnood):

you don't need any sin rule or cos rule. you just need to work out that the other angle in the left triangle is 30 deg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what goes in the place of adj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mariam.A ?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

then use SOHCOATOA to get x/12= cos 45 y/12 = tan 30 12/z= cos 30 what else do you want @Addicto_ ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the unknown y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its y=6.91

OpenStudy (mrnood):

6.93

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep.. correct but i noticed when u round off u forget to add ur 1 at the end if the next numbe is 5 or greater so it should be 6.92

OpenStudy (mrnood):

(btw I meant SOHCAHTOA above)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now for x..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find x there is one more line that is not labelled make that w and find that first coz it has it known opp angle and x doesnt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1416919711429:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (mrnood):

what? x/12=cos45 just solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@MrNood don't get him confused more than he already is. he is working with sin rule at the moment he hasn't tried the cos rule yet..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im a girl...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry..my bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats ok so go on plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok we are solving for w

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no for x, they didnt give me w

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah true but we are making up a w like u drew before because it has a known opp angle w and its opp angle is sin45 12 and its opp angle is sin90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

w/sin45 = 12/sin90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what do u get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

w sqrt2 = 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is ur answer in decimals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u use a calc..it should be (12 x sin45)/sin90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8.48 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now u have two sides u can use pythagoras theorem to solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur hyp would by 12^2 ur adj will be w=8.48^2 and opp would be x which u r solving

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^ = 8.48^ - 12^ ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mariam.A ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah almost there but the other way around x^2=12^2-8.48^2
