I'm guessing it can make the baby have a disorder once born? I don't really know...

well it depends on the type of the mutation, for instance, if a baby is born carrying, not exhibiting the trait for sickle cell anemia, they are immune to malaria

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or sometimes, a mutation will cause a person to be immune to life-threatening diseases, such as HIV or AIDS (which is a good mutation if you ask me!)
