Which is the correct one?

I would go with "I've been trying", it just makes more sense and it sounds right. :) I hope this helps.

Tried means that they did it in the past, and trying means that they have been doing it and are most likely still doing so. They say "all morning" sort of as if it is still in the early daytime, so the second one seems right.
