Ok I have an Idea for OS! Some users have really long and complicated usernames and they go and post a question and they go offline. So when you have to tag them you have to type it all out and might even mess up.

So my suggestion is How about OS lets you tag in a question anyone who has already posted in there even if they are offline. Like you know how the box pops up of the people you fanned and are online. So in the same box the names of all the people who have posted in there and also the question asker if even he didn't post anything should pop up.

The atocomplete is based on what user names your machine has loaded. That is based on who is online and your fan list. If it were to be able to autocomplete any name it would need to load the entire user database every time you logged on. Frankly, that is overkill.

I know but I was suggesting that the people who replied in a questions name also pops up when you try to tag someone regardless if you are their fan or if they are online.

Hmmm... might be workable... though there is not really a huge need to tag people if they are already replying. The system does that anyhow. Also, you can easily copy/paste at that point for the few times you need to tag say person A for this and person B for that.

It is not for if they are replying. It is to tag people who are offline and you are not their fan and you want to tag them in a post they either created or replied to.

Umm... you missed my point completely. If you reply, it sends a notification to every person subscribed to that question. If you tag, it sends a notification if they are subscribed or not.

If they post a question or have replied to it, it already notifies them! There is no need to tag at that point. In fact, even if there are lots of people, you can still just type out a name or part to differentiate who a reply is to, so zero need to @ tag at that point.

Would autocomplete for any tage be nice? Yes. I just don't see them adding it because of how the autocomplete works. And inside a question for people that made it or replied, well, now you see why I don't think it would be a practical addition.
