Using the values and variables given, write an inequality describing how many oil changes and tire changes Carlos can do in less than 3 hours (180 minutes). At Carlos's auto shop, it takes him 12 minutes to do an oil change and 24 minutes to do a tire change. Let x be the number of oil changes he does. Let y be the number of tire changes he does.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so first thing to note that whatever equation u write has to be <3hrs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if x is number of oil change and it takes 12min to do these and y is tire changes and it takes 24mins to do these what do u think the equation should look like making sure t is <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be 12x + 24y< 3hrs right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what would be put as "x" or "y"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to be less then 3 hrs and how would you figure that out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah excellent.. ur equation is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but if u need to find individual values you will need to seperate the equation so 12x<3 24y<3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then solve for individual unknown x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sweet thanks ! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got .25 for x and .125 for y .. would that be right ? considering those are weird numbers o.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah they are both right to prove this of u put it back in ur original equation 12x+24y<3 it should be true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okidoke thanks again ! :)
