\(\color{orange}{Orange }\) War is when Open Study starts to lag and everyone’s SmartScores disappears. Here is a screenshot when Open Study is in the middle of an \(\color{orange}{Orange }\) War so that you know what exactly an \(\color{orange}{Orange }\) War is.

Tips~for~when~you~are~in~\color{orange}{Orange}~War:\)

\(\bf\Large 1.\)

You will need to constantly refresh your page to get new notifications and messages. Otherwise you will not know if someone tagged you or even messaged you!

\(\bf\Large 2.\)

Because of \(\color{orange}{Orange}\) War, you will not be able to see your SmartScore! You will have to wait until \(\color{orange}{Orange}\) War is over to see your SmartScore!

\(\bf\large Why~does~the~\color{orange}{Orange}~war~happen?\)

No one knows when the \(\color{orange}{Orange}\) War happens. The developers try to work as fast as they can to find the problem and resolve the issue as fast as they can.

\(\bf\large How~long~does~the~\color{orange}{Orange}~War~last?\)

It all depends. Sometimes the \(\color{orange}{Orange}\) War lasts for a day, sometimes it lasts for a few months. The only thing we can do is be patient and hope it gets fixed quickly.

\(\bf\large When~will~the~\color{orange}{Orange}~War~come~back?\)

Nobody knows when it will come back or when it will last until. No one really knows what even causes it. Hopefully it will never ever come back.

\(\bf\large How~will~I~know~when~the~\color{orange}{Orange}~War~is~over?\)

If you are logged on and the problem is fixed then you will be logged off of Open Study and will have to log back on to to see that the SmartScores are back up. If you are not logged on when they fix it, you will it right away notice it when you log on because you will be able to see everyone's SmartScore.

Known causes of the past Orange Wars have been documented. There have been database issues, script errors, special character issues, and "other." At this time, they are making slow changes to a particular process related to this instability.

Knowing which process it is has caused huge improvements. In the past, such issues would cause the need for the entire server cluster to be rebooted. This was a 20 minute+ process. However, they have progressed to where they know what fails and have a much faster solution of just rebooting the one process, which takes seconds. Also, they have made it far more reliable so it fails a lot less often.

With some luck, this will be a thing of the past in the near future.
