OpenStudy (kitkat16):

can someone check my answer or that I did the steps correctly? Amanda teaches the art of quilling to 4 students. These students each teach the art of quilling to 4 other students. If this process continues for 5 generations, How many people will know the art of quilling? 4+16+64+256+1024=1364 So answer would be 1364 would learn the art of quilling.

OpenStudy (igreen):

I don't think you got that right. If I'm doing this correctly, each student teaches to 4 other students. Generation 1 is 1 student to 4 other students, which is 4. Generation 2 is 4 students to 4 students each, which is \(4^4\) or 256.

hartnn (hartnn):

don't forget amanda :P

hartnn (hartnn):

1+ 4+ 4^2 + 4^3+4^4 +4^5

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

so I needed to add 1?

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

so it would be 1365?

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

Thank you for pointing this out to me! :)
