Why is it beneficial that many predatory fish have larval and juvenile stages that feed at a low trophic level, while the adults feed at a tertiary or quaternary trophic level?

OpenStudy (confusionist):

By feeding in different areas, they're no longer competing. The younger fish no longer compete against the adult fish. This is helpful because this way, the young fish get the nutrients they need whereas the adult fish don't have to deplete the young fish' resources.
