Am I right 1 20-foot ladder is resting against a wall of a building in such a way that the top of the ladder is 13 feet above the ground. How far is the foot of the ladder from the base of the building? My Answer: 15 Feet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that 120 ft or 20ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well either way, the answer is not 15ft. Think of the latter, wall and ground as a right triangle. The length of the ladder would be the hypotenuse and the length of the top of the ladder to the ground would be a leg. (ladder^2)-(top to ground)^2=(bottom to wall)^2

20 and The answer did come up as 15
