Solve for x: 3(x + 1) = -2(x - 1) - 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. 1 B. -1 C. -5 D. -25

OpenStudy (catlover5925):

so distribute 3, and -2 ---> 3x + 3 = -2x + 2 - 4 now combine like terms on the right side 2 - 4 --> 3x + 3 = -2x -2 add 2 from the right to the left ---> 3x + 5 = -2x now subtract 3x from the left to the right side ---> 5 = -5x divide 5 by -5 so X is by its self X = -1
