What is the relationship between protons and neutrons?

OpenStudy (daniel_chernioglo):

Proton and Neutrons - both are basic Nuclear particles. Protons have a charge of +1, neutrons have 0 charge. They both weigh almost the same. Neutrons are required in most atoms (except Hydrogen) to overcome repulsive forces because of charge on them. Atomic number is in fact number of protons in the atom. If we deduct Atomic Number from Atomic mass, we can have number of Neutrons in the atom.
