Determine which relation is a function. A. {(–5, 1), (–5, 0), (–2, 1), (–1, 4), (6, 2)} B. {(–5, 1), (–2, 0), (–2, 2), (3, 4), (6, 2)} C. {(–5, 1), (–2, 0), (–1, 1), (2, 4), (6, 3)} D. {(–5, 3), (–2, 0), (–1, 2), (6, 4), (6, 3)}

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

In option A, it is not a function, because 1st and 3rd point have the same output for different inputs. In option B, 3rd and 5th have the same output. In option C, 1st and 3rd have the same output.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

A "function" can have many inputs (x-values) for a single output (y-value). but can't have more than one output for a single input.
