solve ax + by = c, for y.

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

start by subtracting ax from both sides by = c - ax now how would you get y by itself?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure how to do this problem at all. i need it explained step by step please.

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

after you subtract ax from both sides you end up with by = c - ax because the -ax on the left side cancelled with the +ax then, all you have to do is divide both sides by b y = (c - ax) / (b)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. and how would i divide to get the answer?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

y = (c - ax) / (b) is the answer when you divide b by both sides by / b = y so you just end up with y = (c - ax) / (b)
